More Information

What STI tests does Harley Street MD offer?

We provide comprehensive STI screening for:

• Gonorrhoea
• Chlamydia
• HIV
• Hepatitis B & C
• Syphilis

Do you use home testing kits or only do tests in the clinic?

All STI tests are performed in our London clinic — we do not offer home testing kits.

How are the samples collected?
  • Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia are tested using a urine sample (PCR-based test).
  • HIV, Hepatitis B & C, and Syphilis are tested via blood samples.
  • There’s no need for painful urethral swabs.
When should I get tested?

You may consider testing if you:

• Think you’ve been exposed to an STI
• Have symptoms (e.g. unusual discharge)
• Have sex with a new partner
• Want peace of mind about your sexual health

According to BASHH guidelines, regular testing is important, especially if you have new or casual partners.

How often should I get tested?
  • If you have unprotected sex with new or casual partners, annual screening is generally recommended.
  • For men who have sex with men (MSM), more frequent testing may be advised (e.g., every 3–6 months), depending on risk.
How long does an appointment take and when will I get results?
  • The consultation is normally around 15 minutes, and tests take about 30 minutes to complete.
  • Results are available same day or next day, depending on the test.
Is testing confidential?

Yes. Your private STI test is conducted in a judgement-free, professional setting. Your results and discussions are completely confidential.

What happens if I test positive?

If you are diagnosed with an STI, we provide:

• Private, doctor-led advice and support
• Prescriptions for treatment, where needed
• Follow-up care and monitoring

Why should I test even if I don’t have symptoms?

Many STIs are asymptomatic — this means you might not notice any symptoms but could still be infected and pass the infection on. Regular testing helps:

• Protect your health
• Prevent long-term complications (e.g., liver damage from hepatitis, infertility)
• Ensure early treatment and reduce transmission risk

Is STI screening safe?

Yes — testing is straightforward and low risk. We use standard, widely accepted methods (blood tests and urine PCR) carried out by qualified professionals
