We know how frustrating and isolating excessive sweating can feel. At Harley Street MD, our treatments are guided by clinical research and tailored to your lifestyle. Our goal is not just dryness, but confidence and comfort in everyday life. Botulinum toxin (Botox®) is injected into the skin to block the nerve signals that activate your sweat glands. When these signals are interrupted, the treated area stays dry. It’s a quick, minimally invasive procedure with long-lasting effects.

More Information

What is hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating that can occur even at rest or in cool environments. It commonly affects the underarms but may also involve the hands or feet. It often causes embarrassment, emotional distress, and social anxiety.

How does Botox® reduce sweating?

Botulinum toxin inhibits the release of acetylcholine, blocking the nerve signals that activate sweat glands. The treated area becomes significantly drier, with effects lasting several months.

Is Botox® safe for this?

Yes — Botox® is FDA-approved for treating underarm sweating and has a long-standing safety record when administered by trained professionals.

Why do you only use Botox®?

We use only Botox® (Allergan) due to its consistent quality, extensive research, and safety profile. We do not offer cheaper alternatives like Azzalure® or Bocouture® for this treatment.

Can other areas be treated?

Only the underarms are licensed for hyperhidrosis treatment with Botox®. We do not offer hand or foot injections due to pain, potential muscle weakness, and safety concerns.

Can I have treatment the same day as consultation?

Yes, we typically allow a 1-hour slot for new patients. If you’re ready, we can proceed after your consultation and consent.

How should I prepare for treatment?

Avoid vitamin E, omega-3, aspirin, and alcohol beforehand. Don’t wear deodorant the day of treatment. Shave the area 12 hours before and wear a dark, sleeveless top.

Why choose Harley Street MD?

All treatments are performed by GMC-registered doctors only.

The clinic is accredited by JCCP and CPSA, and registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for medical safety and patient care.

The CQC has rated Harley Street MD “Outstanding” in its inspections.

This ensures the highest level of safety, ethics, and professional care in non-surgical aesthetic medicine.

What happens during the procedure?

We apply numbing cream, mark the area in a grid, and use micro-needles to administer Botox®. Ice packs help reduce discomfort and bruising.

Is it painful?

Most patients report minimal discomfort — similar to an insect bite. Numbing cream and cold compression are provided.

How long does it take?

30–45 minutes including prep. You can resume daily activities straight away.

How many units are used?

Typically 100 units — 50 per underarm. Dosage may vary slightly depending on your individual case.

What should I expect right after treatment?

Slight redness, swelling, or small needle marks are normal. These fade within minutes to hours.

When will I see results?

Effects start in 1–2 weeks, with full results by 4 weeks.

What’s the recovery time?

Minimal downtime. Most patients return to normal activities immediately. Bruising is rare.

How long do the effects last?

Usually 6–9 months. Results vary by individual and climate.

What happens when Botox® wears off?

Sweat gradually returns as nerves regenerate. We recommend retreatment every 4–6 months for consistent results.

Can I fly after the procedure?

It’s best to wait 1–2 days to avoid product dispersion due to cabin pressure changes.

What are the side effects?

Most are mild: redness, swelling, bruising. Rare side effects include allergic reaction, headache, or paradoxical sweating elsewhere.

Any post-treatment instructions?
  • No rubbing or massaging for a few hours
  • Avoid deodorant the rest of the day
  • No strenuous exercise or alcohol for 2 days
  • Avoid extreme heat for 2 weeks
  • What are the contraindications?

Botox® is not suitable if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or have neuromuscular disorders. Always inform your doctor of medical history and allergies.

    What if I need a top-up?

In rare cases, a follow-up may be needed after 4–6 weeks, especially if your masseters are particularly large. This would be a repeat full treatment.

What if I find out I’m pregnant after treatment?

There’s no evidence that Botox® harms pregnancy, but it's not licensed for use during pregnancy. Observational studies show no harm, but treatment should be avoided if you're trying to conceive.
